Roosevelt Looks To Repeat

March 29, 2012, 10:55 PM by Cat Clark

Roosevelt Looks To Repeat
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

The last calendar year has felt like a dream to this Roosevelt team. It started by hoisting a baseball title followed by a football championship. Now, after losing 6 seniors from last year the Riders will look to carry their winning success from the gridiron to the diamond behind a trio of seniors that want to go out on top as well.

"We're just going to keep working hard and keep the intensity up, both me, Scott, and John as football players we're going to keep the intensity up and run baseball practice just how we ran football practice," Justin Warne said.

This group will not only face the challenge of trying to repeat, they'll also face the competition this year using wood bats in place of aluminum. After one game in the books players are already noticing the change, and so far pitchers are reaping the benefits.

"Wood bats definitely change the game a lot more. It's more of a pitchers game and the ball won't travel as far so we're playing a lot more small ball, moving guys over, and bunting to get guys in scoring position. Stuff like that, just trying to drive the ball," said senior Scott Tyler.

With new faces in the lineup, a bat change, and now a target on their backs coach Joel Sage doesn't want Roosevelt to wake up from their dream just yet. But he knows the past is past and the future is now.

"Well we've talked a little about that. We're proud of what we accomplished last year, but we're done celebrating and we're ready to move on and see how we fair this year. There's plenty other great teams out there, so we need to be ready," said head coach Joel Sage.

Roosevelt looks to pick up their first win of the new season as they host Brandon Valley on Monday night, first pitch is at 7.
