Dakota State's 2012 football schedule was announced Thursday as the Trojans kick off their season at home on Saturday, Aug. 25. DSU will be playing a total of 11 games – six at home.
Josh Anderson's Trojans open the season, hosting Peru State (Neb.). Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Trojan Field. It will be the third meeting between Peru State and DSU, a series that began in 1971 where the Trojans prevailed 45-13. Peru State won the second meeting 14-8 in 1972.
DSU continues their long-time rivalry with Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on Sept. 1 in Mitchell, S.D. at 6 p.m. The Trojans defeated the Tigers 21-20 in both teams' last meeting in Mitchell on Sept. 4, 2004.
Dakota State heads to Crete, Neb. for a match-up with Doane, a member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). Both teams will battle out in a night game at 7 p.m.
The Trojans returns back home on Sept. 15 to battle with their former Dakota Athletic Conference foe. DSU welcomes Valley City State (N.D.), which qualified for NAIA Football Championship Series last fall. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. at Trojan Field.
DSU will face the third opponent from the GPAC on Sept. 22. The Trojans travel to Northwestern of Orange City, Iowa for a 1 p.m. kick-off.
The annual Trojan Day homecoming takes place on Sept. 29 as the Trojans take on Concordia (Neb.). The Trojans stay home for a date with Hastings (Neb.) on Oct. 6. Both games are scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
Dakota State plays their final two road games of the season against a pair of GPAC opponents. The Trojans head to Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Oct. 13 with the game time starting at 1 p.m. DSU won the first-ever meeting with the Chargers 24-16 on Oct. 15, 2011 at the Trojan Field.
The Trojans travel to Sioux Center, Iowa for the first time in program history as they face Dordt (Iowa) on Oct. 20. The Defenders won the first-ever meeting on Oct. 22 in Madison.
Dakota State concludes their 2012 schedule with a pair of home games against former DAC members. The Trojans welcome Jamestown (N.D.) on Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. and Mayville State (N.D.) on Nov. 3 at 3 p.m.
The NAIA Football Championship Series kick off with first-round playoffs on Nov. 17. The quarterfinals take place on Nov. 24. Semifinals will be held on Dec. 1. The national championship game is held in Rome, Ga. on Dec. 15.
