Aberdeen Crews Clearing Emergency Routes

February 29, 2012, 12:40 PM by Erich Schaffhauser

Aberdeen Crews Clearing Emergency Routes

Northern South Dakota was one of the hardest hit areas; people in the Aberdeen area are dealing with more than six inches of snow.

The cleanup has been in full swing since early Wednesday morning.  The city is working to clear Emergency Snow Routes and have issued a snow removal alert.  That means beginning Thursday morning, crews will begin on residential streets, starting with north-south streets and then east-west streets in the afternoon.

The Department of Transportation called in its plow drivers around 3:30 Wednesday morning; they were on the roads an hour later clearing snow and ice

On Highways 12 and 212, drivers are faced with drifting and packed snow.  The Potter County Sheriff says after a night of no crashes, he's been dealing with a couple throughout the day.  He and other officials throughout the area are asking drivers to be extremely careful.
