I-90 Closed Murdo To Chamberlain

I-90 Closed Murdo To Chamberlain
I-90 At Chamberlain

PIERRE, SD -

Department of Transportation officials have closed Interstate 90 in South Dakota between Murdo and Chamberlain because of blizzard conditions.

Officials say the stretch of road has white-out conditions with near-zero to zero visibility and icy conditions.  Blowing and drifting snow is making safe travel nearly impossible.

Interstate 29 is also closed from Watertown to the North Dakota border.  Many other areas including Clark, Spink, Beadle, Kingsbury, Gregory, Tripp, Todd, Buffalo and Hand Counties have roads with no travel advisories.

Drivers should continue to monitor the Safe Travel USA website for the latest on road conditions in South Dakota and be prepared to change travel plans if necessary.

Anyone who drives on a closed highway faces criminal charges and fine of up to $1,000.  Stranded drivers can also be charged for the cost of rescue efforts.
