Icy Rain Turns Sidewalks, Streets Slick

February 28, 2012, 11:48 AM

Icy Rain Turns Sidewalks, Streets Slick
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Rain that moved into Sioux Falls on Tuesday had about the worst possible timing.

The icy shower covered the city just as the morning commute picked up.  Roads and highways turned sloppy and slick on those going to work and school.  At the same time, it was a battle between ice and salt on Sioux Falls sidewalks.  In most areas, ice won, but some people used several hundred pounds of ice melt to keep their sidewalks from turning slippery.

If you are in a car crash, police are asking that you call the non-emergency phone number for fender benders or accidents without injuries.  That number is 367-7000.  A 911 call takes precedent because of the immediate need for emergency responders.
