Minnesota Just Days Away From Caucus

February 4, 2012, 10:00 PM by Jon Berg

Minnesota Just Days Away From Caucus
LUVERNE, MN - The Pizza Ranch in Luverne was the spotlight of town earlier this week.

Presidential candidate Rick Santorum was supposed to hold a town hall meeting there Monday, but due to overwhelming demand, it was moved to the Palace Theater.

But this weekend, the Ranch is filled with Minnesotans who are just days away from their caucus. So far, Santorum, Mitt Romney and Ron Paul have all visited the state. The only one who hasn't made a stop is Newt Gingrich, who's currently leading the polls.

"If they can't come to the state they figure we're not important," Marion Halverson said.

Halverson and Diana Hensley both weren't able to see Santorum when he visited Monday, but they'll still try to get out on Tuesday. Hensley says it's important for everyone to take part in the decision.

"I think it depends on generational, I think it's more generational dependent, I think younger people are starting to take more part which they should be, but I think it's regional and generational," Hensley said.

And although Halverson wasn't able to see Rick Santorum when he came and visited on Monday, she says it's important for all of the candidates to come out and visit with citizens before they decide who to caucus for.

"I think it's good they come and visit because a lot of people don't know them, and especially coming to Luverne, a smaller town instead of staying in the cities was a good idea," Halverson said.

And while Halverson and Hensley both have their minds made up for Tuesday, those who don't have just a few days before they need to make their decision.
