SD House Panel Looks At Texting Ban For Drivers
PIERRE, SD - A South Dakota House panel is looking at a measure that would ban texting by drivers in most circumstances.

The measure would prohibit the use of cell phones and other handheld devices to write, send or read text-based communications while driving.

It would allow the use of handheld devices to make voice calls or make emergency communications. Devices that use hands-free technology also could be used while driving.

The House State Affairs Committee had scheduled a hearing on the bill Wednesday.

The South Dakota Legislature has rejected similar bills in past years.
