SIOUX FALLS, SD -
Now could be the time to put your mark on the new Sioux Falls Events Center. As the city moves forward with a building design, it is looking for a few good residents to help out.
"The citizens decided we wanted to build an events center. So, this is a public facility and this is a great opportunity to engage the general public to really get involved in a formal way," Project Manager Kendra Siemonsma said.
Siemonsma is coordinating all the teams working on the new center construction project. Just a month-and-a-half after voters gave the green light, the city is ramping up the three-year building process.
"We are gearing up and starting to lay out teams and plans to continue with the design," Siemonsma said.
And she says that design could include you. The city is looking for volunteers to sit on construction committees.
"We have two committees that will focus on facility management and tenant or sporting team experience," said Siemonsma. "And the other committee will focus on design elements like color of the walls, art, etc."
But she says while everyone may want to participate, the city is looking for people with experience, not a degree, but at least some experience with sporting teams, facilities management, design, color, and aesthetic design.
"We went as far as we could through schematic design to the vote, and then we stopped. We didn't want to spend any more money," she said.
And now that the budget and project are approved, it's up to you to help make the details come alive in a brand new design.
The city has already received one application. They are taking them through January 15.
