Huether: Vote Sends A Message

SIOUX FALLS, SD -
It's been talked about for years and Tuesday, Sioux Falls approved a plan to build a new events center.
Once the last votes were counted, Mayor Mike Huether said he was proud of people for getting out to vote. More than 40 percent of all Sioux Falls registered voters cast a ballot in the election. The final tally had the yes side getting 58 percent of the vote; 42 percent of voters were against the plan.
Huether says he wanted to know what residents thought of the plan and it was his goal to let the people decide. He thinks the vote sends a message that people want to build a new events center now and keep moving the city forward.
He says he believes the project is long overdue for the community.
As for those who didn't support the plan, he says admires their will and tenacity to lead. He says not everyone will agree on everything but as long as everyone loves the city and can find ways to compromise, good things will happen in Sioux Falls.
