RC Police Chief Reveals More About Shooting

RAPID CITY, SD -
KELOLAND News has learned more about what happened in the fatal officer shooting in Rapid City Tuesday afternoon.
“This scenario started by three of our police officers contacting four individuals on a city street, Anamosa street and Greenbriar intersection,” Rapid City Police Chief Steven Allender said. “The contact with them related to some suspicious behavior, an alcohol violation, about a 10 minute confrontation.”
Officer James McCandless, 28, died in the shooting, officer Tim Doyle, 39, had surgery after being shot in the face and is now in stable condition. The other officer, 27-year-old Nick Armstrong, also had surgery Tuesday night. He is still in critical condition.
The suspect, 22-year-old Daniel John Tiger of Rapid City, died Wednesday.

Authorities did not identify the victim, but described him as a 16 year old from Minnehaha County.
