Students Visit Avera For Hands-On Experience
February 23, 2011, 4:50 PM
Today the 4th graders visited the Avera Heart Hospital where they got some hands-on experience. They also got a lesson in nutrition, learning what foods are good or bad for the vital organ.
The students even got to learn CPR. It's a lesson these students have been learning all week. Ten-year-old Zane Ross says he's learning things about his heart he never knew before.
“If like you had a heart attack I didn't exactly know where the heart attack would be and now that I studied the heart a little bit more then I got to learn a lot more about the heart,” Ross said.
“This broadens their knowledge, gives them a base of something that they can delve further on their own,” 4th grade teacher Deb Vandeberg said.
