PIERRE, SD -
A record number of students have enrolled at South Dakota's four technical schools for the second year in a row.
Lake Area Tech in Watertown, Mitchell Tech in Mitchell, Southeast Tech in Sioux Falls and Western Dakota Tech in Rapid City report a total of 6,179 students enrolled this fall. That's up 228 students from last year.
The technical schools in Watertown and Mitchell had the largest enrollment increases. Programs that saw the biggest enrollment gains were architecture and construction; health science; information technology; and science, technology, engineering and math.
State Education Secretary Tom Oster says the technical institutes offer top-notch programs that provide the workers businesses need.
