MN Farmers Catch Welcome Stretch Of Dry Weather

ST. PAUL, MN - Minnesota farmers caught a welcome stretch of dry weather last week.

In its weekly crop weather report for Minnesota, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said Monday the dry weather allowed harvesting to resume in higher, drier fields.  Despite heavy rains September 22-23 that caused flooding across southern Minnesota, the report says, fields in several locations have dried rapidly. Fieldwork has resumed across the state, even in southern areas. Statewide, 4.6 days were rated suitable for fieldwork last week.

Soybean producers made the most harvest progress, advancing 23 percentage points to 29 percent harvested, compared with 17 percent last year and 36 percent for the five-year average. The corn harvest advanced 2 points to 4 percent, compared with 1 percent last year and a 6-percent average.
