Couple Faces Life In Prison For Sex Trafficking

November 25, 2009, 6:23 PM by Ben Dunsmoor

Couple Faces Life In Prison For Sex Trafficking
Tea Police first got the call about the alleged sex trafficking of underage girls in July.  Brandon Thompson, 28, and 30-year-old Megan Hayes now face life in prison if they are found guilty of the charges.

Police have been working on the case for the past four months. They say it took a while to nail down the case because Thompson used several different aliases including Terence Clay Junior and Hanee Rashid King. But court papers say the underage prostitutes knew Thompson as 'Kadafi.'

A duplex on Brian Street in Tea is where federal investigators caught up with Thompson and Hayes.

Jan Scott was babysitting her grandchildren just a few doors down Wednesday and says the allegations against the couple are unbelievable.

"Being grandma and having two young daughters living here with two granddaughters, it was pretty scary," Scott said.

According to court papers, the Tea couple would meet their underage victims at the duplex. They would allegedly drive them to the Motel 6 in Sioux Falls where police say the girls would have sex with customers for $300.

Court papers document at least three victims involved in this case. One of the victims says Thompson, who she called 'Kadafi,' took her to Motel 6 earlier this year where she and another girl had sex with a customer. When they were done, they gave 'Kadafi' $150.

The court papers also detail a second incident where Hayes took the victim to Motel 6. This time, she did an erotic dance for the customer who also paid her $300. The victim knew she was supposed to have sex with the customer because Hayes even gave her a condom to use at the hotel.

But even though investigators say the illegal activity took place in Sioux Falls, Scott says the fact that the couple lived just a few doors away is a shock for the small town of Tea and for her family who just moved in.

"They said they had the neighborhood checked out and everything. So they were really shocked to hear that something like this was going on so close to them," Scott said.

U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson will not say how old the girls are or if they are from the area. The couple advertised the services under the heading 'South Dakota Escorts' on the Web site
