Sioux Falls Teacher Receives Milken Award
October 26, 2009, 3:49 PM
Governor Mike Rounds and state Education Secretary Tom Oster on Monday gave a Milken Family Foundation National Educator award to Kira Christensen, a math teacher at Washington High School in Sioux Falls.
The award includes $25,000 in cash.
The Milken award was conceived to recognize the importance of good teachers and encourage young people to enter the profession.
Christensen, who has been with the Sioux Falls district for five years, incorporates technology in the classroom to help her students.
She also gets an expense-paid trip to Los Angeles to attend the Milken Educator Forum, a national gathering of award-winning educators who will address strategies for advancing teacher effectiveness.
