SF Bus Aide Arrested For Soliciting A Minor

A Sioux Falls school bus aide has been arrested for trying to meet up with a teenager for sex. Twenty-five-year-old Curtis Wegner is accused of chatting online with a person he thought was a 14-year-old girl and then going to a Sioux Falls park to meet her for sex.
Wegner has worked as a school bus aide in the Sioux Falls school district for the past year and a half, but investigators do not think Wegner crossed the line with those children.
Wegner was arrested after the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office and the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit chatted with him online during a month-long investigation. While investigators say the school bus aide tried to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex, they don't believe Wegner did anything inappropriate with the children at work.
Wegner worked on a school bus with students that ranged from pre-school-age all the way up to high school students.
"From what I understand is he would have no access to a computer at work, so obviously the chatting wasn't happening at work. It was on his off time," Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Jeff Gromer said.
Wegner last logged into his MySpace account Monday. His profile says he is looking for a 'sweet, nice, kind girl that likes to party and have a good time.' But the 14-year-old girl he thought he was chatting with online for the past month turned out to be Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office investigators who took him into custody.
"There is satisfaction in that you don't have that 14-year-old victim and you can make the arrest prior to that happening," Sgt. Gromer said.
And since Wegner was a school bus aide, there was always another adult on the bus with him so authorities don't think he had any criminal contact with the students he worked with.
"Obviously, if information comes to light that will be investigated but there was nothing uncovered in the month long investigation that would indicate any involvement with School Bus Inc.," Sgt. Gromer said.
School Bus Inc., the company that is contracted with the Sioux Falls School District to provide bus service, has suspended Wegner without pay.
