McGovern Endorses Hillary Rodham Clinton

McGovern Endorses Hillary Rodham Clinton

Former Senator George McGovern has endorsed Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination.

The 85-year-old McGovern, who lives in Mitchell, says Clinton is a "seasoned, thoughtful, caring person." He says her experience as a US senator and first lady make her the best qualified Democrat.

McGovern made the endorsement over the weekend in Iowa. He says his personal loyalty to Bill and Hillary Clinton influenced his endorsement decision.

McGovern says he has never seen a time when it looks more like a Democratic victory on the national level. He attributed it to what he called President Bush's "weakening" of the Republican Party and the country through, "bad leadership."

McGovern, the Democratic nominee in 1972, lost the general election by a landslide to President Nixon.
