June 4, 2009, 2:27 PM
The Sioux Falls Storm have announced that defensive back Shannon Poppinga has chosen to return to the team.
Poppinga is one of the most accomplished players in Storm history. The Augustana grad holds records as the Storm's all-time leader in interceptions, pass breakups, field goal return touchdowns, and field goal return yards. Poppinga also ranks second all-time in tackles with 359.5 in his career.
Poppinga will be re-joining one of the IFL’s most stout defensive units. The Strom currently ranks second in scoring defense, fourth in pass defense, and sixth in rushing defense.
The Storm welcomes Poppinga back, as they prepare for a back to back matchups with the Billings Outlaws.
