At the beginning of July, only six percent of corn was in the poor or very poor category according to a survey done by the National Agricultural Statistics Service. Now, that number sits at 35 percent, which is seven times what it was.
Only two percent of corn is currently in the excellent category, down from nine percent just two weeks ago. 52 percent of top soil and 51 percent of subsoil is also in the very short of moisture category.
With only chances of rain in the upcoming few days, the outlook doesn't look much better.
