A motorcyclist remains in critical condition after being hit by a driver who Sioux Falls Police say ran a red light and was speeding and texting at the time of the crash.
Authorities say it happened just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday. At the time, 20-year-old Brent O'Neal was driving south on Minnesota Avenue. Witnesses say O'Neal was driving his 2005 Chrysler 300 close to 60 miles per hour when he hit another vehicle near 26th Street. The Chrysler then hit several other vehicles and a motorcycle before eventually hitting a light pole.
Police say O'Neal ran from the scene and was later picked up by authorities. He was treated for minor injuries before being taken to jail.
O'Neal faces several charges including four counts of hit and run, reckless driving, careless driving and no insurance.
Police have identified the injured motorcyclist as 33-year-old Philip Lowel Sorensen.
