Paralympic Archers Train In Yankton for Olympics

July 25, 2012, 6:48 AM

YANKTON, SD -

The American Paralympic archery team is doing some final training in Yankton before the start of the Olympics in London next month.

South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard was among a group of officials who welcomed the team Tuesday. Daugaard says the visit shows Yankton "can be a competitive place for athletes to train." The archery squad has seven members.

The National Field Archery Association has its headquarters in Yankton, and its indoor shooting range was recently renovated.

Archery team coach Randi Smith says the training visit will help the archers "get our equipment tuned properly" before the Paralympics start Aug. 29 in London. The regular Olympics begin Friday.

Association President Bruce Cull says the group is attempting to get its Yankton center declared an official Olympic training facility.
