Scattered Rain is Over…Drought Is About to Get Much Worse…
The news this morning is mixed, some rain fell in KELOLAND, but we also had a lot of dry spots. Spots east of Huron picked up around .75”, with more thunderstorms in the Milbank and Sisseton area that produced over .50”. We also had reports to hail and wind damage in north of Winner with some heavy crop damage in parts of Tripp County. Overall, the storms were spotty and Sioux Falls along with many other locations received no rain.
The forecast is calling for more hot and dry weather as we head into the weekend. Temperatures will be mainly in the 90s, but could be near 100 by Sunday afternoon in much of central and western KELOLAND. There will also be more wind as we head into Sunday and Monday, which is not good news at all.
Monday will be especially tough around Sioux Falls as crop conditions will continue to decline. The hottest weather may break by Tuesday as some slight cooling is forecast from the north.
However, there are signs that this heat ridge will really intensify late next week with little chance of rain. We could be looking at more upper 90s and 100s once again.
