11-Year-Old Boy Leads SD Deputy On Vehicle Chase

11-Year-Old Boy Leads SD Deputy On Vehicle Chase
RAPID CITY, SD -

An 11-year-old boy is accused of stealing a sport utility vehicle in southwest South Dakota and leading a sheriff's deputy on a chase.

Pennington County Sheriff's Capt. Corey Brubakken says the boy faces charges of burglary, grand theft and aggravated eluding in the Sunday incident. The case is being handled in the juvenile court system where suspects are not identified because of their age.

Brubakken says the short pursuit began when the deputy stopped the SUV on Interstate 90 near Wall. The boy took off when the deputy started walking toward the vehicle and led the officer down a gravel road before driving into a field and unsuccessfully trying to flee on foot.
