Thune Working With Edgemont Ranchers

July 6, 2012, 10:03 PM by Derek Olson

Thune Working With Edgemont Ranchers

Senator John Thune met ranchers on Friday to listen to their concerns about how the White Draw Fire was handled.

After the meeting, Thune said he believes fire officials should try to do a better job of communicating with locals.  But, the Senator also said that there will always be some challenges when so many different agencies work together.

“I think there's always going to be a certain amount of frustration when you've got local people working with state people working with federal folks,” Thune said. “There's an inherent tension that comes with that.”

Thune is currently working on allowing ranchers to open up dedicated C.R.P. land for haying and grazing in an effort to help ranchers impacted by the fire and dry conditions.
