Women of all ages got a chance to take back the outdoors Saturday.
The Outdoor Campus in Sioux Falls held its third annual ‘Women’s Try It Day,’ an event designed to empower women of all ages and give them the opportunity to experience and engage in the outdoors.
Director Thea Ryan said there are six different stations participants can experience. They include archery, paddling, geocaching, fishing, outdoor cooking, and BB gun and pellet rifle shooting.
“This event gives women of all ages and backgrounds an opportunity to actively enjoy and experience the outdoors,” Ryan said.
And Ryan says she got the idea from seeing so many women come in to the Outdoor Campus and decided to make a ‘girls day’ of it.
“This gives women a chance to try different activities they might not normally try,” Ryan said.
And this event gives women some experience too.
“If you walk into a store and want a kayak you might not know what you’re exactly looking for, but here you can try it and see if you like it,” Ryan said.
But, Ryan says what’s most important is that women enjoy the day and have fun being with other women.
Ryan says she expects about 300 people to turnout to the event.
