Ericsson To Be Sentenced For Killing Former Classmate
Carl Ericsson | May 2012

A 73-year-old Watertown man who admits to killing another man will be sentenced Friday morning.

Carl Ericsson pleaded guilty but mentally ill to second degree murder last month for the death of 72-year-old Norman Johnson, a retired Madison High School teacher.

At the time of the shooting this winter, Ericsson was suffering from chronic depression.  In court, he said the shooting stemmed from a long-time grudge from when he and Johnson were high school classmates.

Ericsson faces a mandatory life in prison sentence.

KELOLAND's Ben Dunsmoor will be in Madison for the sentencing Friday morning.  You can listen to the court proceedings starting at 9 a.m. on the Live Coverage page.

This article has been revised to reflect the following correction:
This story was updated to reflect that Ericsson is 73, not 74.
