SD Woman Asks Court To Put Her On House Ballot

April 17, 2012, 5:44 PM

A Rapid City businesswoman has asked a judge to order that she be put on the June primary ballot to challenge Rep. Kristi Noem for the Republican nomination for South Dakota's lone seat in the U.S. House.

Secretary of State Jason Gant argues that the case should be thrown out because Stephanie Strong waited too long to go to court. Gant says ballots must be printed Wednesday so absentee voting can begin Friday.

Circuit Judge Mark Barnett held a brief hearing in the case late Tuesday, but adjourned after being unable to get Strong on the telephone. Barnett says he has not been able to determine if the secretary of state was properly served with the lawsuit.

Strong argues she presented Gant with enough valid signatures to qualify her.
