A man looking to build a dirt racing track in Box Elder says the project is still in the works despite months of planning setbacks.
The Box Elder Planning and Zoning Commission has continued Bill Keester's application for a conditional use permit to operate a 3/16-mile dirt race track north of Interstate 90. Keester is a former sprint car driver who operated the Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City in 2008 and 2009.
If approved, the track would run go-carts, mini sprint cars and possibly demolition derbies and monster trucks.
City planning coordinator Mike McMahon says that after Keester gathers the necessary information, the city will consult with the police, fire and county officials before making a recommendation to the city council.
