Standoff Suspect To Make Court Appearance

March 15, 2012, 12:06 PM by Ben Dunsmoor

Standoff Suspect To Make Court Appearance
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

A 26-year-old Sioux Falls man is expected to appear in court Thursday afternoon after he kept police at bay for nearly three hours during a standoff in central Sioux Falls.

Lawrence Larsen is facing aggravated assault charges, as well as recklessly discharging a firearm.  The standoff started just after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday near the corner of First Avenue and 18th Street, just south of downtown Sioux Falls.

Several agencies responded to the scene after it was reported that Larsen fired a handgun in the air several times.  Police say there was some type of dispute going on that led to the standoff.

Detectives are questioning Larsen about the incident as part of their investigation.

Larsen did come out of the house peacefully after talking with the negotiators.  He is expected to be in court at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
