A bridge in Afghanistan has been named after the infant son of a South Dakota soldier.
1st Lt. Joshua J. Lien was leading the 200th Engineer Company when his wife, Crystal, went into labor. Tucker Casey Lien was born Dec. 27.
The National Guard unit from South Dakota had been more than a day into a 46-hour bridge building mission during an operation near Bayazo village in Helmand province.
The International Security Assistance Force Joint Command, which officially approves the names of structures in Afghanistan, agreed to a suggestion by a friend of Joshua Lien.
Platoon Sgt. 1st Class Wally Dauwen suggested the name of Tucker's Crossing.
