Central KELOLAND Bracing For Storm Again

February 28, 2012, 6:32 PM by Erich Schaffhauser

Central KELOLAND Bracing For Storm Again

Some of the areas expected to be in the thick of things during this week’s storm were still digging out from heavy snow as the storm was approaching.

Potter County sat in a blizzard warning Tuesday. That came after its 10 plus inches of snow at the end of last week.  People were still removing snow in Gettysburg as they prepared for more.

"I was still shoveling some snow yesterday," Mary Westphal said.

Just in time to do it again. People in Potter County were busy getting ready for the storm Tuesday.  Gas stations saw numerous people come in and fill up. Westphal works at one of them; she's was getting ready herself.

"Oh yes, I'm all prepared. I packed my bags and I'm staying in town," Westphal said.

At the Potter County courthouse, Sheriff Curt Hamburger was asking people to heed warnings during the storm.

"It's our job to go and find you, I get that. But I'd rather not have myself or my deputy or anyone else's lives be put in danger trying to find someone or come out to an accident," Hamburger said.

Wind in last week's storm reduced visibility and blew a semi into the ditch. Another vehicle went off the road, through a fence and into water. He urged everyone Tuesday to be careful during this week’s storm.

"And be ready for it; that's about the best you can do," Hamburger said.

Back at the gas station, Westphal planned to be no less than ready before the snow even fell. She found herself out on the road in the middle of the last storm.

"You knew you had a ditch on one side and a ditch on the other side, but you didn't really know where you were at," Westphal said.
