Special Events At Falls Park Lighting Ceremony

SIOUX FALLS, SD -
The Falls Park Winter Wonderland lighting ceremony kicks off Saturday evening with some extra activities planned this year.
Lights have been hung on the lamp poles with care, but you'll have to wait until Saturday evening's lighting ceremony to see what kind of Winter Wonderland has been created at Falls Park this year.
The city has used more than 200,000 Christmas lights for the event and decorated more than 400 light poles and trees.
In conjunction with the Winter Wonderland celebration on Saturday, the Falls Overlook café is also going to have special events inside.
"It looks like the weather might get a little cold and chilly so we want to have plenty of activities," Utopia Café owner Tony Kellar said.
In the spirit of the holidays and giving back to the community, Kellar has invited the Sioux Falls Humane Society to be a part of the event and Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues group will provide face painting for the kids.
"It's a pretty popular event. We like to do things on the off season. Obviously, JazzFest is our busiest time of year so it's nice to come out and remind people we are still here," Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues spokesperson Brienne Maner said.
So anyone who needs to get in out of the cold is in for special events this year, maybe even a surprise visit.
"I think Santa's going to have his hands full, and his lap full," Kellar said.
The Singing Boys of Sioux Falls choir will set the mood by providing Christmas music throughout evening, which will add to this festive setting.
Events start at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Overlook Cafe.
On the west lawn at Falls Park, you might get a glimpse of Santa's reindeer. There will also be horse-drawn wagon rides, cookies and hot chocolate, compliments of the Sioux Falls Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The official lighting ceremony starts at 6 p.m. and festivities run until 9 p.m.
