Evacuation Request For Pierre & Fort Pierre
PIERRE, SD - Governor Dennis Daugaard is telling all residents of threatened areas in Pierre and Fort Pierre to evacuate their homes by 8 p.m. Thursday.

Law enforcement officials will begin going door-to-door Wednesday evening to alert residents this new evacuation request.

This is in effect for all residents in Pierre and Fort Pierre whose homes are at an elevation of 1434 feet above sea level or lower. While this is not a mandatory evacuation, it is strongly encourage and recommend.

If you are a resident looking for shelter, call Lutheran Social Services hotline at 224-1189. There's also a Red Cross shelter at Georgia Morris Middle School in Pierre.

Any additional questions call the flood hotline at 1-866-446-5324 or visit the bReady South Dakota website.

The state has released maps of areas that could expect flooding in Pierre and Fort Pierre.  If you live within the inundation area, you are asked to leave your home by Thursday evening.
