MOBRIDGE, SD -
A Mobridge man is dead and a Wakpala woman is charged with murder.
Division of Criminal Investigation agents arrested 42-year-old Donise Red Water Tuesday. She's accused of killing 41-year-old Vincent Village Center.
Mobridge Police responded to a call Tuesday morning for someone needing an ambulance at the Brown Palace Apartments. That’s where they found Village Center dead. Now, officials at the state and local level are investigating.
"Not in a million years we thought this would happen to somebody like him. Because he gets along with everybody," half-brother Charles Black Fox said.
Black Fox says the family is still shocked the father of two is no longer with them. His apartment is still sealed after investigators spent about 12 hours gathering evidence Tuesday. Police say he likely died late the night before or early that morning.
With the investigation still ongoing police aren't releasing how Village Center died. But they say it was suspicious from the minute they found him.
"Upon reviewing the body we determined that there was suspicious activity and called for assistance to help," Mobridge Police Captain Justin Jungwirth said.
Police say Village Center and the woman now accused of killing him knew each other but they aren't saying what led to her arrest.
Family is thankful the case is moving forward as they wait for answers.
"It's just a shock that he's gone. We just seen him the other day and one day he's gone. It's just a shock," Black Fox said.
Authorities are doing an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Red Water is scheduled to be in court Monday.
