South Dakota Sex Offender Arrested Again

SIOUX FALLS, SD - 49-year-old David Paul Griffin appeared in a Sioux Falls courtroom today charged with the sexual contact of a little boy and girl. The victims were the grandchildren of one of Giffin's friends.
David Griffin was convicted of raping a 4-year-old girl in Pennington County back in 1987. Now, more than two-decades later, he faces new child sex charges, involving a 5-year-old boy and his 2-year-old sister.
Police say David Griffin had sexual contact with the boy and girl at their grandmother's Sioux Falls apartment. According to court papers, the boy told investigators that Griffin, known as "Griz," took off the boy's pants and underwear and touched him on his "naughty spots." The boy also said that his sister was "pinched on" by Griffin.
Police became involved in the investigation when the children's mother became concerned about the unusual behavior they were displaying about a month ago.
"It was different sexual activity that was unusual for a 5-year old. And it was unusual enough that they felt that it needed to be reported to authorities," Sam Clemens of the Sioux Falls Police Department said.
Police filed three separate reports on that unusual behavior and then arrested Griffin Tuesday. Griffin is no stranger to the South Dakota Sex Offender Registry, with his 1987 conviction of child rape. Authorities don't know whether the grandmother knew about his past.
"It's one of those things, it's kind of unfortunate, but people need to do homework and make sure people are who they say they are," Clemens said.
The judge set Griffins' bond at $50-thousand dollars today and Griffin cannot have contact with anyone under the age of sixteen.
