Storm Center Update - Wednesday AM
January 26, 2011, 6:00 AM
Partly cloudy skies are in the forecast today with areas of fog early this morning in eastern KELOLAND.
Temperatures should be near or above normal today with 25 in Sioux Falls and 26 in Aberdeen. Pierre and Rapid City will be warmer, with 40s in many areas West River.
It looks mild tonight with lows in the upper teens to mid 20s, much above normal for this time of year. That will set the stage for a mild day tomorrow with partly sunny skies and highs in the 30s across the east and near 50 in the far west. We’ll see more melting on Friday, but the wind will increase during the day, northwest at 20-40+mph. Many areas will get a crust over the snowpack before the wind arrives, but there will be areas in northeastern SD and southwestern MN that will not get as warm and will be more prone to blowing snow Friday afternoon and evening.
Colder air will sink south during the weekend and we are expecting areas of snow, especially on Sunday. I think the best chance of snow will be in the western 2/3rds of KELOLAND, but we’ll watch the track of that system as it gets closer. Colder weather will continue early next week.
