KELOLAND Coldest in the Country

SIOUX FALLS, SD -
South Dakotans definitely take pride in being able to handle all that a northern plains winter can throw at them. This morning, however, may have gone a bit to the extreme as temperatures in KELOLAND were colder than anywhere else in the continental U.S.
Looking at the national map you can see the bullseye for the coldest temperatures right over northeast KELOLAND. Zooming in to to the regional map shows more detail as to where those coldest readings were with Aberdeen at 24 below zero. As we take a closer look you can see that Watertown was also at 24 below, with Huron and Mobridge in the 20s below zero and the rest of the central and east in the teens below zero.
Typical the coldest temps line up in northern Minnesota but some clouds kept that area in the teens below zero. We had clear skies and light winds in KELOLAND allowing for perfect cooling conditions.
