ST. GEORGE, UTAH -
The founder and owner of the Dollar Loan Center was one of nine men arrested during a Utah prostitution sting.
42-year-old Charles Brennan was arrested in Saint George, Utah on Thursday as part of an ongoing prostitution investigation.
He faces one misdemeanor count of patronizing a prostitute in Washington County, Utah, which is about 100 miles outside of Las Vegas where he lives.
Brennan opened his first Dollar Loan Center store in Las Vegas in 1999, but he grew up in Sioux Falls and has nearly 50 Dollar Loan Center stores in South Dakota, Utah and Nevada. Just a few blocks from downtown Sioux Falls is a three-story building with all of the businesses Brennan has built over the years.
Just last year he talked about how his pay-day loan business was booming because people were having trouble getting loans from banks.
Brennan not only operates his pay-day loan stores out of his headquarters in Sioux Falls, but also his collection agency called Clark County Collections. He even started up an online short-term loan company last year called the Loan Shack.
Back in 2008 Entrepreneur magazine listed Dollar Loan Center and Brennan's collection agency as two of the fastest growing companies in the country.
But, now Brennan is being accused of living in the fast lane. He's been caught in an ongoing prostitution investigation in Saint George, Utah, and Thursday night during a sting operation detectives arrested Brennan and eight other men who they say arranged to exchange money for sex.
Brennan faces a misdemeanor count of patronizing a prostitute and is scheduled to enter a plea for the crime later this month.
That's when the Sioux Falls native who has built up several successful businesses will have to face a judge after Utah investigators say he was trying to make a transaction that was against the law.
KELOLAND News called Brennan's cell phone for a comment on the arrest, but he did not return our phone call.
