SIOUX FALLS, SD -
You've probably noticed Christmas lights slowly going up and holiday merchandise taking over store shelves. While we expect to see ornaments and garland, it's a bit early for live trees or is it?
"It's a bit early for me," shopper Ken Cross said.
"It’s just too soon," shopper Lenn Rich said.
That was the reaction of customers watching as the first truck load of trees were off-loaded one by one Monday morning at Lewis Drug.
"Everything gets earlier and earlier," Cross said.
While it may be several weeks before Santa's big day, Lewis Drug Manager Bob Deaton says people will buy them.
"As beautiful as the weather is, people will be out looking at them. The nicer the weather, the faster people come in and look at the trees," Deaton said.
While this seems like an awful lot of Christmas trees for the 15th of November, Lewis Drug says they'll sell a good 200 to 300 of these before Thanksgiving. After that, another truckload will come in.
"We’ll go through almost twice this many trees," Deaton said.
Each of the Lewis locations in Sioux Falls is expected to sell between 500 to 600 live trees from now until Christmas. That many trees give everyone a chance to find the perfect tree, whether they believe in buying early or not.
“We try our best to get in good selections every year of good, lively trees; this batch really does look nice," Deaton said.
The good news is it's not going to cost you much more to buy your tree this year. The Christmas trees at Lewis Drug run from $9.99 to around $40.00.
