SD University Tuition, Fees To Go Up 4.6 Percent

April 15, 2010, 3:56 PM

Students at South Dakota's public universities will see tuition and mandatory fees rise by an average of 4.6 percent for the next academic year.

State Board of Regents President Terry Baloun says the board kept the increases as low as possible to limit the impact on students and their parents during the economic slump. The increases are the smallest in the past decade.

The tuition and fee increases will cover about half the $6.5 million in budget cuts in higher education made by the South Dakota Legislature. The universities will cut services to absorb the rest of the spending cuts.

An average in-state undergraduate student taking 32 credit hours a year will pay $7,077 in tuition and required fees next year, up $312 from this year.
