A Sioux Falls woman running for South Dakota House of Representatives is charged with DWI and careless driving after officials say she hit a 7-year-old girl on a bike.
Sioux Falls Police Officer Sam Clemens says Carmen Toft was driving south on Chicago Avenue on May 22 as the child crossed 8th Street. Toft did not see the child in the crosswalk and hit her with the car.
The girl was taken to the hospital but the extent of her injuries are unknown at this time.
Toft is running for the Democratic nomination for South Dakota House of Representatives in District 10.
Kelly Bartnick is gathering more details on the crash and will have the story later today on KELOLAND News.
