Zebra Performs Various Tricks
We're used to seeing horses roam the pastures, but how about something with stripes?  A KELOLAND man has a zebra as a pet and when it comes to riding, there's no horsing around.

When it comes to performing tricks, it's as simple as black and white for Jared Lynch and his zebra, Kenya.  Lynch, who lives near Larchwood, Iowa, bought Kenya six years ago in Florida.

He's been working with Kenya training him to do some things most zebras refuse to do. Lynch and Kenya perform at fairs and schools, but today, they are showing off for a day care. 

"He's the only zebra in the United States that does the amount of tricks that he does and rides," Lynch said.

Kenya's tricks range from saying hello with a hoof shake to playing dead, which is one of his toughest tricks to perform.

"You can't train him like a horse.  He's nothing like a horse; he's 100 percent different.  A horse you can make them do what you want.  With him, he has to want to do it," Lynch said.

Kenya doesn't trust just anyone to saddle up for a ride. 

"I'll tell you a little thing about him, every time I get on him, he's got to look back at me to make sure it's me," Lynch said.

A performing zebra that has an eye for his owner and a star quality truly earning him his stripes. 

"He's definitely like a pet.  I don't know what we'd do without him," Lynch said.
