Many sport teams, including youth figure skating, youth hockey and the Sioux Falls Stampede are looking forward to the new SCHEELS IcePlex, which is scheduled to be opened this fall.
A lot of youth teams have to get up extra early before school starts to make sure they get in some practice time in because there are not enough sheets of ice within the city.
The head coach for the Sioux Falls Stampede says he's ready for an updated facility.
“We're really looking forward to the new facility for sure. This is kind of out lived and out dated. It's colder in here than it is outside right now. So, it makes due but we are really looking forward to a new facility with good offices and good ice time and it's going to be very important to our organization,” Sioux Falls Stampede Head Coach Cary Eades said.
Eades says he hopes that the new IcePlex will help grow the sport.
“It's a crunch for ice time, there are figure skaters, youth hockey and the Stampede. There's only so much ice time. We're really looking forward to a facility that's going to grow all three of those entities. Youth Hockey will for sure be able to grow, figure skating will hopefully grow and our ice time will hopefully be much better,” Eades said.
