A Yankton man who attempted to strike his neighbor with a machete has pleaded no contest.
43-year-old Ernest Randles was deemed competent to face an aggravated assault charge stemming from the February 2012 incident.
Authorities say a victim reported that Randles had swung a machete at him twice, requiring him to duck to avoid a head injury. During the scuffle, Randles struck a stereo speaker with the machete.
Law enforcement officers used a Taser stun gun to subdue Randles.
Randles faces up to 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine. He is slated to be sentenced on Monday.
