Yankton County Sheriff’s Office got a tip this morning about a twitter post from 23-year-old Travis Potts from the city, about wanting to shoot up a school. Yankton Police contacted the school district and all the schools were placed on lockdown.
Potts was arrested less than a half hour after the tip was made without incident. Schools were taken off lockdown by 12:30 p.m. Potts is charged with two counts of making terroristic threats. Parents were notified of this incident by email shortly after 2 p.m. After further investigation, Yankton Police found that the threatening posts were made 3 weeks ago.
There is no known motive for making the threat and Potts does not have any connection to the school district.
