Wrongful Death Suit Filed In Motorcycle Fatal

March 21, 2012, 2:23 PM

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

The estate of a 61-year-old Dupree man killed in July when his motorcycle was struck by a car in northwest South Dakota has filed a federal wrongful death lawsuit against the driver.

A representative of William Weitzel's estate filed the lawsuit against Kathleen Carlson, of Bellevue, Washington, Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Sioux Falls.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says a car driven by Carlson drifted into the wrong lane on U.S. Highway 212 three miles west of Lantry on July 11 and collided with a motorcycle driven by Weitzel, who later died in an Eagle Butte hospital.

The suit seeks unspecified damages.

Carlson and her two passengers were not injured. A telephone message left with Carlson was not immediately returned.
