Wolters Set For NBA Draft

June 26, 2013, 10:25 PM by Matt Holsen

Wolters Set For NBA Draft
ST. CLOUD, MN -

After weeks of visiting NBA teams from one end of the country to the other, South Dakota State all-time leading scorer Nate Wolters is back at home in St. Cloud, Minnesota. That's where the former Jackrabbit will take in tomorrow night's NBA Draft. The point guard is expected to hear his name called, and once he does, it will be a dream come true.

Nate Wolters could go anywhere from here. With more than 2-dozen NBA teams ready to make their selections, the former Jackrabbit star anxiously awaits his fate.

"A lot of teams seem interested. It's just a matter of having one team like you enough to want to pick you," Wolters said.

In the latest mock drafts, DraftExpress has Wolters going 38th overall to Washington while NBADraft.net sees the 6'4" point guard heading to the Spurs at 28.

"Just hoping to hear my name called, whether that's first round or second round. More importantly, looking for a good fit. Somewhere I can come in and try to get better year in and year out and have a chance to play," Wolters said.

That work ethic has brought him to where he sits today. Following 12 workouts with NBA franchises in 21 days, Wolters is now just hours away from realizing his NBA dream.

"It's been something. Four or five years ago I had no clue this was going to happen, that I'd be in a position like this, to have this type of experience. I'm just grateful for it. My parents have been a big part of it. Always supporting me, bringing me to games when I was a kid. Always supporting me through college. It's been unbelievable for them as well," Wolters said.

As for his SDSU family, Wolters says he already misses the school and his fans. But, he knows they'll follow him wherever he goes.

"I know they're going to be watching tomorrow night and hopefully they'll be cheering too," Wolters said.

Wolters averaged just over 22 points, five assists and five rebounds per game his senior season at SDSU. He helped lead the Jacks to the NCAA tournament for a second straight year.
