SIOUX FALLS, SD -
A baby is safe after the car it was in was stolen from a Sioux Falls gas station Sunday night. Police are giving credit to witnesses who tracked down and detained the suspect.
Police say a running car was stolen with a one-year-old baby inside at Cubby's at 12th Street and Western Avenue Sunday around 9:30 p.m. Police say several witnesses heard the mother screaming and that's when they followed the car.
Once the thief stopped at a home, two witnesses tackled the man and held him until police arrived. Another witness got the baby out of the car.
James F. Farmer, 45, is charged with kidnapping, grand theft, possession of stolen property, DWI, reckless driving and driving without a license.
Police say the baby was returned to his mother and wasn't hurt.
