Winter Event Will Help Raise Money For Humane Society

Winter Event Will Help Raise Money For Humane Society

This weekend will be your last chance to enjoy the outdoors at Great Bear Recreation Park. The ski hill is hosting an event to celebrate the end of the season and kick of the beginning of spring.

There will be several fun events that will kick of Sunday at 12:30 p.m., including pond skimming, a costume contest and a snowball fight.

The entry fee is $5 and the proceeds will go to the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society in memory of Jack, the owner's dog that was well known around Great Bear. They have already raised almost $1,000 for the humane society.

“You need places like the humane society. Pets are very important to us and become part of our family and part of our life, just like Jack did, and this is important to us,” Great Bear General Manager Dan Grider said.

After Jack died, Grider put a jar out with his picture on it and couldn't believe the response. What started out as $200 is now up to $800 and that will likely increase over the weekend. Jack was adopted from the Humane Society so that is why Grider wants to give back.
