An administrator at Winona State University is the next president of Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.
The Board of Trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system appointed Connie Gores SMSU president Tuesday.
MnSCU Chancellor Steven Rosenstone recommended Gores for the position. The other semifinalist was Ronald Rosati, provost of Southeast Missouri State University.
Gores starts her new duties July 1. She has served at Winona State since 2007 as vice president for student life and development, and was interim president of Winona State last summer.
Southwest State is the youngest of the four-year institutions in the MnSCU system. The school served more than 6,500 students last year.
Ron Wood has been SMSU interim president since July 2011, after David Danahar retired.
